Tidewater Gazette ledger of A. R. Micou [manuscript], 1883.

Micou's ledger contains accounts for the Tidewater Index, particulary with advertisers. The ledger provide a glimpse of the life of the Tappahannock community in 1883 through advertisements and job printing including obituaries, public sales, schools, stores, the Weems Line Steamers, election tickets, a church festival and a lost property notice for a stolen canoe. Noted individuals having accounts with Micou include Thomas Croxton and James CalvinCouncill. At the end of the volume are separate accounts for advertising agents including George P. Rowell & Co., publisher of an annual nationwide newspaper directory, and Edwin Alden & Brothers placing 13 ads for Washington and Lee, University of Virginia Law School and the Medical College of Virginia.
